Many plants with an ornamental value are specially grown as cut flowers. This concerns various types. Origin, cultivation method and substrate differ greatly. Important types are:
- Rose: The rose belongs to the genus Rosa from the Rosaceae family. The flowers of the plant are also called rose. There are more than a hundred species and thousands of different cultivars.
- Hydrangea, or Hydrangea, has its origins in Asia and North and South America. Some species have developed into large trees, others into small compact shrubs. In recent decades, the Hydrangea has been grown as a cut flower in all sorts of colors and sizes.
- Hippeastrum is the Latin name for a bulbous plant that originates from Central and South America. It is a bulb plant from the large family of the Amaryllidaceae, the narcissus family. The Hippeastrum comes from America, from northern Argentina to Mexico and the Caribbean. Is grown from a bulb as a cut flower or sold as a pot plant.
- Freesia: The freesia is a herbaceous perennial flowering plant from the Iridaceae family. The cultivated freesias are graceful funnel-shaped hybrids, descended from a number of freesias.
- Lily: Lilium is a genus of herbaceous flowering plants. Most lilies originate from temperate areas in the northern hemisphere, but they also occur in the northern subtropics.
