Pineapple is one of the commercial fruit crops and known for its sweet, rich taste and spiny texture. Pineapple is sweet and delicious inside, spiny and thorny on the outside.

Pineapple is a herbaceous humid tropical plant grows well in plains and also at elevation up to 1000 MSL. Pineapple requires slightly acidic soil with a pH between 5.5 to 6.

Pineapple is usually propagated by sucker, crown, slip and through tissue culture. Plants will flower 12 to 15 months after planting and fruit is ready for harvest after 15 to 18 months of planting depending on the variety, type and size of plant material, time of planting and prevailing climatic conditions. The crop can be retained for ratoon crop after harvest for 3 to 4 years depending on soil health.
